Brief4

This will be a fashion shoot, involving one model. I will photograph a model size 8-10 with the white backdrop in different poses and outfits. Clothes will be in pastel colours and I will buy it for this shoot. I will also photograph different type of flowers and leaves with odd shapes and later create collage in post processing (photoshop) composing by two or more images together. I will photograph the flowers against white background too. Flowers will be photographed in the studio and leafs will be photographed in botanic garden Edinburgh. This editorial can be used in the fashion magazine, for my own portfolio and the models portfolio. Model is edgy look model with blond hair, agency standard, which is from facebook modelling page. I choose to use combination of flowers, leafs and portrait because this editorial can be used in spring issue of fashion magazine.

This concept is based on floral design, which is inspired by paintings by Mucha. The mood of the image will be Art Nouveau style, with romantic poses. I would like these images to look like collage after editing so they will look like objects were photographed separately. The idea behind it is that the view will not feel cheated be hidden photoshop editing but they will clearly see what’s been added to the portrait. This should also look timeless.
I will portray the model in the studio in different clothes and I will photograph the flowers separately, same colour to match each outfit. I will use the fan to have models long hair moving. She will wear minimum of make-up, on some images the lipstick to match the colour of clothes. I will direct her to do different dancing poses to capture shape of her body to make her look sexy and feminine. The lighting will be very soft and flat, I will use the cove in studio 19, with 2 lights on the background and one large softbox in front of the model. I will have one assistant to help me with lighting and manipulate the fan. There will be one MUA for doing make-up and hair and she will be there whole time to make sure the hair is perfect during and after using the fan. I will work with the fast shutter speed to freeze the movement in the hair for the portrait. Aperture between F11 and F16 to get images in focus, will work better when I use them together as collage. All will be printed in colour.

Mucha is one of my favourite artist. Mucha, was a Czech painter and decorative artist, known best for his distinct style. He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs.Mucha produced a flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelry, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets in what was termed initially The Mucha Style but became known as Art Nouveau(French for “new art”). Mucha’s works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely neoclassical-looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed halos behind their heads. In contrast with contemporary poster makers he used pale pastel colours.

Australian label Cameo is well known for their experimental prints and flattering silhouettes. The brand’s look books and campaigns, with their flawless photography and creative concepts, are consistently unique and refined in their executions.

Cameo’s latest editorial reflects the botanical prints featured in their Grand National collection, a beautiful arrangement and celebration of Australia’s native flora. The brightly coloured kangaroo paws, bottle brushes and banksias provide textural composition, while complimenting this season’s trends of minimalism and pastels.

In this special issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, a collaborative effort with the V & A Museum in London. Sophie is draped in Asian-inspired floral designs that are beyond lovely, especially when paired with those memorable & enchanting illustrations . . .

Flowers by Nick Knight

Nick Knight is a multi-talented British photographer who has won countless awards for his outrageous editorial work and done collaborations with some of the biggest names in fashion. But don’t think that he is materialistic or without substance – Knight spent three years poring over six million herbarium specimens at the Natural History Museum in London to select just 45 to photograph for his Flora exhibition. In the introduction to the paperback collection of the same name, Nick writes: “Plants have always fascinated people. They feed us, clothe us and are indispensable as drugs and medicines.” He goes on to describe the detailed and often under-appreciated art of preparing plant specimens. Not what you’d expect from a fashion photographer, right? But the beauty and movement of the images themselves certainly is – or maybe that speaks to the grace of the plants themselves.

I have researched different paintings and designs to get an idea what I can apply to photography, such as shapes, colours and size of the flowers.
