In The Garden – Spring

Fashion, spring clothes collection.

I’ve chosen ‘Edinburgh botanic garden’ as location for shooting this project. The story here is that the gardens is a models own garden and she is just enjoying beauty of it. I went to see the garden and the best place for this collection would be inside the glasshouse. There are plants with long leafs to frame nicely the space for walking. I have chosen to shoot spring collection with floral or botanical feel.

I want to have in the frame the glasshouse construction around the model, so I will shoot from lower angle. In this project I would like to have selection of long shots and closer shots.

This will be a fashion shoot, involving one model. I will photograph a model size 6-8 on the location of Edinburgh Botanic Gardens – Glasshouse. Clothes will be in bright colours, embroidered and I will buy it on ASOS and TKMaxx for this shoot. I will portray the model with surrounding of the plants. Images will be wider crop to capture glasshouse aspects as well. I want to have in the frame the glasshouse construction around the model, so I will shoot from lower angle. In this project I would like to have selection of long shots and closer shots.  This editorial can be used in the fashion magazine, for my own portfolio and the models portfolio. Model is very elegant, agency standard, which I’ve got from facebook modelling page. I choose to use this location of botanical glasshouse, because this editorial can be used in spring issues of fashion magazines and I will shoot it in February when is not enough greenery and exotic trees around in Scotland.

I will portray the model in the studio in different clothes and she will be changing the outfits on the toilette, which is just opposite the glasshouses. She will wear dramatic make-up, lipstick to match the colour of clothes. The hair-style will be wild and curly. Model is from Glasgow and she will be meeting the MUA and hair stylist in Glasgow before the shoot. I am communicating with them regarding the styling on Facebook. She will come to Edinburgh ready form the shoot and I will meet her at the gardens. I will have a MUA tools with me just in case we need to change something. The lighting will be ambient light with the reflector, however I will have a speed light with soft box with me in case the light is very dull. I will have one assistant to help me with holding the reflector and carry all the props. I will shoot with wide-angle lens in combination with 50mm lens. Images will be in colour. I have the permission the photograph in gardens and I’ve contacted manager office in advance to let them know I will be there.

I choose this inspiration images by Marc Colins. Here is a lovely selection of dresses and they match nicely with the surrounding and plants. Only I think those images are all central composition which can be little bit boring for my editorial. I will shoot from different angles and use wider and closer crop.

I choose this two images for my research because they very natural. Also this minimlistic dress and coat look very elegant here. I am thinking to have one colour outfit for my shoot as well. Maybe the light is little bit to hard here.

On this image I like the choice of the jacket. I will be looking for a fake fur jacket for my spring collection.

I like the crop here and the landscape format, would be great for double spread. I am planning to use cactuses in my shots as well and the lower angle makes model look longer and elegant.

I like here the palm behind the model and on the second image use of palm branch to create the shadows.

HAIR IDEAS

The model has and extension for her hair at home and she is going to dye it to match her hair colour. She send me few images how she could do the hair and I asked her to keep the hair curly and messy like on the first image.

MAKEUP IDEAS

The MUA will be doing make-up in models house before the shoot in Glasgow. We agreed on smokey eyes and, eye liner, little bit of shine on the eyes. Neutral lip stick, so we can match the lipstick later on with the dress.

MODEL

Test shoot

I went around the garden and was looking for the place where I can do full body shots and where I can do close ups. I really like the last image where there are palm branches in the background. I like use of 50mm lens at F1.8.
