“I told them of my encounter with the priest”

The first translation to Czech language for word encounters was “something unexpected” in a relation with word “meeting”. First thing I understand from the sentence “Stories of encounters” was meeting something unexpected. After other research I found out the word encounters was used a lot in terms of meeting some unexpected person or situation. In this project I would like to do portraiture with the fashion elements. One of the occasions where we use and think about fashion in our lives is celebrations, like parties and weddings. I decided to photograph this project as wedding portraiture with fashion elements.

Story behind this image will be a portrait of bride separated from the wedding party and peaking through the door or window and thinking if she should get married or run away.

Abbott Handerson Thayer  about 1895

I got inspired by this painting for my project. I like the pose of the lady and the volume of the dress. The expression on her face is not happy and that’s what I want to capture on my models face.

Research

Rankin – Lucy Lu

During me research I found this portrait by Rankin. I really like the reflection on models face and her skin looks healthy. The dress wrap around her head is original idea. I will use wedding dress which I have from charity shop and I organised the stylist to attach pieces of fabric and different materials to the dress to add volume and lightness. The stylist study fashion so I hope to create some connection with her and hopefully met some new creatives in this field.

I’ve researched alternative dresses and found images by Jackie Nickerson styled by Katie Shillingford for Dazed magazine 2014

On this image I like the pose and composition. The model is leaning agains the table and covering her face. I will ask my model to do similar pose without covering her face. I want model to look confused and looking away from the camera. I also like here the stream of light in the left corner. I think this gives the dept to the image. I will apply this to my image too.

In this image I also like the pose and model looks confident. I want my model to look confident but not relaxed. I like the chair in front of the lens, this also give the depth to the image and the feel of reality.

Mario Sorrenti – editorial for V Magazine called “Best in the west”

This image inspires me for location. I am planning to shoot this project in untidy environmental to gives the idea of confused feeling of the model. I was shooting my fashion project last year by the house next to Edinburgh college. Back of the house has very old, half broken wooden wall with rubbish around. There is a back door and that’s where the model is gonna be.

model Calum Shambolic photographed by me last year. I would like to use the location for this project, but will place the model closer to the wall. I also want to show the symbolic that there is a brighter part behind this wall.

In V Magazine I found very interesting fashion editorial by Solve Snubs

I am inspired by this editorial for the lighting and feel which I want to have with my images. The is a back light, natural light and this creates nice dramatic feel to the images. Model is using a hands to pose here and that’s what I want to do as well, but I want my model to have less strong poses. I like to positions of the head here and the light on the models face under her eyes.

Creative team

Te team for this project I found through the networking and Facebook. I will book two models just in case one is not hanna turn up. MUA will be coming from Inverness which is very far… I will take my own make up kit in emergency case I can do make up myself. The stylist study fashion on Napier university and I will provide all material and dresses. I will meet her in the college studios before the shoot to prepare the dresses.

I’ve book the lens for this shoot from studio store ( canon 70-200 ) and i will use my camera Canon 5D markii. The stylist agreed to assist me with the shoot after the styling. She has some experience with photography and she will be happy to help. I will use reflector to lit models face but will try to not use speed lights if possible. Want to use natural sun light ( hopefully 🙂 as a lighting from the background and will try to create a lens flare.

Editing will be in Adobe Photoshop and want to desaturate the colours of image to get the neutral feel and skin editing.
